Jim Kimbler, Chair

Jim is a founding member for the Charlotte Village Network and currently serves as its first Board Chair. With more than 30 years in state and local governments in long-range planning, his skills and leadership have been invaluable in setting the foundation for developing a Village Network in Charlotte. He also serves on the board of the Mecklenburg Council on Aging.


Jim holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Florida and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Miami.  He completed doctoral studies at the University of Central Florida.

Carlos Aurellano, Secretary

With more than 25 years in the financial services industry, Carlos is an accomplished corporate sales leader with broad experience in business planning and project management, and as a consultant-trainer in learning and development strategies for financial advisors and field representatives.  


While at Prudential, one of his many duties included oversight of the employee volunteer engagement program as well as placing key senior executives on the boards of nationally-affiliated nonprofit community organizations. Carlos holds a BA Degree in Educational Psychology from Columbia Christian Center College in Portland, Oregon.


Toni Maddox, Treasurer

Toni Maddox is currently employed as the Business Office Coordinator with PACE of the Southern Piedmont (Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly). She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management-HR with a minor in Gerontology as well as a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from UNC Charlotte. Toni also holds a Certified Assisted Living Administrator License.

Pat Nash, M.Ed., Program/Evaluation Committee Chair

Prior to retiring, Pat served for over 25 years with Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) as Associate Dean and managed evaluation systems for 27 student services departments to validate the effectiveness of their programs. Prior to that, she served for more than 12 years as Director of Career Services.


Prior to joining CPCC, she was co-owner of a financial services talent agency in uptown Charlotte, served as Dean of Students at D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY, and held positions in career services at the Universities of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She has consulted for Rowan Cabarrus Community College, Consulting Psychologist Press (CPP, Inc.), Spartanburg Community College, and Queens University.


Pat completed her undergraduate degree in education at Boston University and masters degree at Boston College.

Mary Ellen Fleming, Board Member, Fundraising Committee Chair

Mary Ellen is the Vice-President of Client Relationships for FirstLight Home Care, a Charlotte company she co-founded with her husband Ken, who serves as President.  She combines her many years of working in hospitals and medical practices, as well as financial services, to help families find the right caregiver for their loved ones.  The company is established to provide caregiving services throughout six North Carolina counties including Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Iredell, Gaston, & Lincoln.


Mary Ellen holds the Certified Senior Advisor® designation that requires a commitment to high standards, continuing education, professional ethics and trust.  


As the parents of a young adult with special needs, she and Ken have seen how rewarding and empowering it can be for their son to have a caring and compassionate caregiver.

Scott TenBroeck, Board Member, Volunteer Committee

Scott has been in the senior living industry for over ten years following a previous career in logistics.  He has worked a county ombudsman committee member resolving complaints within assisted living homes.  He transitioned to being an executive director in assisted living homes and nursing homes throughout the country.  He frequently speaks about critical issues for seniors, ranging from fraud prevention to affordable housing.  He is the owner of Elder Options which helps seniors maintain their independence by finding the appropriate resources to meet their needs.  Scott has lived in Charlotte 13 years with his wife and 3 boys.

Alison Starkey, Board Member, Marketing Committee

Alison Starkey has been a physical therapist for close to 30 years. She has worked throughout the healthcare continuum including ICU's, hospitals, rehab centers and nursing homes as well as in people's homes. As a direct-patient provider and prior supervisor and administrator, she knows the healthcare business inside and out. She knows the needs of patients as well as the realities many face in the home. She is married with school-age children and lives in South Charlotte with her family.

Katie Jones, CPA, Advisory Committee

Katie T. Jones is a Certified Public Accountant who serves as an Audit Manager in the Charlotte accounting firm of Cherry Bekaert. As a member of the firm's not-for-profit and education industry groups, Katie provides audit, assurance and advisory services to private and public colleges and universities, independent K-12 schools, educational, public and private foundations, and religious and other charitable organizations.

She holds both a Bachelors and Masters of Science degree in Accounting from Appalachian State University. Her professional involvements include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA). She is also a supporter of the Arts & Science Council’s Young Donor Society and Let’s Talk.
